Using the Tax Centre to Prepare for Filing
Step-by-step guide to downloading your capital gains report, reading your contribution room summary, and exporting data for your tax return.
The Tax Centre pulls together your capital gains, contribution room, and scheduled contributions in one place. This guide walks through each section and how to export what you need for your tax return.
Tax disclaimer. Tax Centre figures are estimates based on brokerage-reported transaction data. Always verify with a qualified tax advisor before filing. Luum does not provide tax advice.
Opening the Tax Centre
Click Tax Centre in the left sidebar. The Tax Centre is available on the Investor and Wealth tiers (and during the 30-day free trial). Starter-tier users see a preview with upgrade prompt.
Step 1 — Review capital gains
- On the Capital Gains tab, select the tax year from the dropdown (current year and up to two prior years are available, subject to transaction history depth).
- Review the summary table showing each disposition: security, date sold, proceeds, ACB, and gain/loss.
- Check the totals at the bottom: total proceeds, total ACB, and net capital gain/loss for the year.
If a figure looks wrong — for example, a security is missing or an ACB seems off — see ACB Tracking in Depth for common reasons and how to correct them.
Step 2 — Download your capital gains report
Two export formats are available:
- PDF report — a formatted summary suitable for your records or sharing with a tax advisor. Click Download PDF on the Capital Gains tab.
- CSV export (T5008 style for CA / 1099-B style for US) — a spreadsheet suitable for import into tax software. Click Export CSV.
Step 3 — Review contribution room (Canada)
- Click the Contribution Room tab.
- Review available room for RRSP and TFSA. These are the only two account types with room tracking.
- Enter your declared room for each, from your CRA Notice of Assessment or CRA My Account. Luum does not calculate your room — it draws down against the figure you give it, so until you enter one there is nothing to draw down against.
- Confirm that contributions across all your brokerages are reflected. If you hold a TFSA or RRSP at a broker not connected to Luum, used room will be understated and remaining room overstated.
Step 4 — Check scheduled contributions
The Scheduled Contributions tab shows any recurring contributions you have set up and projects whether you are on track to max out your contribution room by year-end. This is a planning view only — it does not initiate or track actual deposits.
